43% of cyberattacks target SMEs, and 60% of them go bankrupt within 6 months of a data breach. Your website is a critical business asset that requires regular maintenance and proactive protection.
At Ligne 1, maintenance and security are not optional services — they are the foundation that guarantees the longevity of your online presence. We handle hosting, updates, backups, monitoring and protection of your website so you can focus on what you do best: growing your business.

Web hosting in Belgium: the foundations of your visibility
Web hosting is the service that stores your website files on a server permanently connected to the Internet. It is the "land" on which your digital storefront is built. Poor-quality hosting results in a slow site, frequent outages and a degraded Google ranking — because loading speed has been an official ranking factor since 2021 (Core Web Vitals).
Criteria for good web hosting
- Server location — For a site targeting the Belgian market, servers located in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany or France guarantee minimal latency. Avoid American hosting that adds 150 to 300 ms of response time.
- Availability (uptime) — Target a SLA (Service Level Agreement) of at least 99.9%. Each lost percentage represents hours of downtime per year. 99% = 87 hours of downtime/year. 99.9% = 8.7 hours/year.
- Performance (speed) — NVMe SSD storage, server cache (Varnish, Redis, LiteSpeed Cache), PHP 8.x, HTTP/2 or HTTP/3 — technologies that drastically accelerate loading times.
- Automatic backups — Daily backups with a minimum retention of 30 days. In the event of a hack or human error, you can restore your site in a few clicks.
- Responsive technical support — Support available 24/7 by competent technicians (not chatbots). At Ligne 1, every ticket is handled by a human in under 2 hours.
Suitable for lightweight brochure sites. Resources shared with other sites.
Guaranteed performance. Recommended for any serious business site.
Automatic scalability. Ideal for e-commerce and traffic spikes.
At Ligne 1, we host your sites on high-performance European servers (Belgium/Netherlands) with NVMe SSD, LiteSpeed cache and daily backups — all included in our maintenance packages.
Domain name: your address on the Internet
The domain name is the address your customers type into their browser to reach your site (for example: ligne1.be). It is your digital identity, your online brand, your first point of contact with the digital world. A well-chosen domain name reinforces your credibility, facilitates SEO and protects your brand.
How to choose a good domain name?
- Short and memorable — Aim for 2 to 3 words maximum. The shorter the name, the easier it is to remember, spell and communicate verbally (radio, phone, business card).
- Appropriate extension — For a Belgian company, the .be extension is a strong trust signal for local consumers and Google. Also consider registering the .com and .eu to protect your brand.
- Include a keyword if possible — If your brand name allows it, incorporating a relevant keyword in the domain name provides a slight SEO boost. Example: plumbierliegeois.be vs abc-services.be.
- Check legal availability — Before purchasing a domain name, check that it does not violate any registered trademark via the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP) and EUIPO.
- Enable WHOIS privacy — Protect your personal data by enabling WHOIS privacy. This prevents spammers from retrieving your email address and phone number.
Management and renewal by Ligne 1
Every year, companies lose their domain name by forgetting to renew it. The consequences are catastrophic: loss of the site, professional emails and Google ranking accumulated over years. At Ligne 1, we take care of the complete management of your domain names: purchase, automatic renewal, DNS configuration, redirects and transfers. You will never risk losing your online address again.
Web security & updates: protecting your site against threats
A website that is not kept up to date is an open door for hackers. WordPress, for example, publishes critical security updates several times a month. Each unupdated plugin and theme represents a potential vulnerability that malicious bots exploit automatically — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In Belgium, the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) requires companies to take appropriate technical measures to protect the personal data of their customers. An unsecured site that suffers a data breach can result in fines of up to 4% of annual turnover.
Our Ligne 1 security protocol
- SSL/TLS certificate (HTTPS) — Encryption of all communications between your site and visitors. The padlock in the address bar inspires trust and boosts Google ranking. Included in all our packages.
- Web Application Firewall (WAF) — Real-time filtering of malicious traffic: SQL injection attacks, Cross-Site Scripting (XSS), brute force on login forms, etc.
- WordPress/CMS updates — Regular (weekly) application of WordPress core, theme and plugin security updates. Each update is tested in a staging environment before production deployment.
- Anti-malware scanning — Automated daily scan to detect malicious files, suspicious redirects and backdoors. Immediate cleanup upon detection.
- Daily off-site backups — Your data is backed up daily to a secure external server (separate from the hosting). Retained for 30 days with 1-click restoration.
- 24/7 uptime monitoring — Automated monitoring every 5 minutes. In the event of an outage, our team is alerted and responds within 15 minutes — day or night.
- Anti-DDoS protection — Filtering of distributed denial-of-service attacks that attempt to overwhelm your server to make your site inaccessible.
- Enhanced authentication — Two-factor authentication (2FA) for all administrative access. Login attempt limits. Strong passwords enforced.

GDPR and web compliance: your legal obligations in Belgium
Since May 2018, the GDPR requires any company that collects personal data (contact forms, newsletters, analytics cookies, etc.) to comply with strict data protection rules. In Belgium, the Data Protection Authority (DPA) is empowered to sanction non-compliant companies.
What your site must mandatorily contain
- Privacy policy — A page describing what data is collected, why, how it is processed and for how long it is retained.
- Compliant cookie banner — Explicit consent before placing any non-essential cookies (analytics, advertising, marketing). A simple banner saying "By continuing, you accept" is NOT compliant.
- Legal notice — Identification of the site publisher (name, address, company registration number, contact), the host and the publication manager.
- Compliant forms — Every form collecting personal data must include a link to the privacy policy and an unchecked opt-in checkbox.
- Right of access and deletion — Your visitors must be able to request access to, modification of, or deletion of their personal data. You must respond within 30 days.
At Ligne 1, every site we create or maintain is natively GDPR-compliant. We integrate a certified cookie manager, draft your legal notice and privacy policy, and configure your forms according to regulatory best practices.
Your questions about website maintenance and security
How much does website maintenance cost in Belgium?
A professional maintenance contract costs between €50 and €300/month depending on the level of service desired (basic, pro, premium). This package includes updates, backups, security monitoring, technical support and a volume of hours for minor changes. It is a negligible investment compared to the cost of a hacked or broken site.
Why is an SSL certificate mandatory?
The SSL certificate (HTTPS) encrypts the data exchanged between your site and visitors. Since 2018, Google penalises sites without HTTPS in its rankings and Chrome displays a "Not Secure" warning that drives visitors away. The GDPR also requires data protection measures — SSL is one of them.
What happens if my site is hacked?
If your site is under a Ligne 1 maintenance contract (Pro or Premium), we intervene quickly to clean the malware, restore the site from a clean backup and strengthen security to prevent recurrence. All of this is included in the package, at no extra cost.
Can I migrate my hosting to Ligne 1?
Absolutely. We carry out the complete migration of your site from any host (OVH, Combell, Infomaniak, etc.) to our servers. The migration includes the transfer of files, database, emails and DNS configuration — with no service interruption.
How often should my site be updated?
For a WordPress site, security updates should be applied every week. Major updates (WordPress core, themes, plugins) are tested in a staging environment before deployment. Never leave a site without updates for more than 30 days.
Is my site GDPR compliant?
If your site has not been audited for GDPR compliance recently, there is a good chance it is not compliant. We offer a quick GDPR audit (included in our maintenance packages) that checks: cookie banner, privacy policy, legal notice, forms and data management.
Your site deserves 24/7 protection.
